Strength in NUMBERS: Asian American urban music project

Kickstart This!

Kickstart This!

Now THIS is a music project for real Americans.

CHOPS, formerly of the Mountain Brothers, is looking to share the fruits of his success by expandanding the reach of established and aspiring Asian American and international urban music artists. Strength in Numbers is a partnership of co creators making music that none of them would have made otherwise. This Kickstarter campaign is an attempt to make it a more equitable endeavor than it would be if the major labels were involved.

The talent is strong, and he’s got his own skin in the game, but he still needs your help to make it through the home stretch.

Here’s a little taste of what you’ll get.

As you can see, something great and monumental will come of this. Wouldn’t you like to be able to say that you had a hand in it? If you don’t fund this, don’t say there ain’t no good American music out there!

Tonight 9pm on PBS: Jake Shimabukuru in Life on Four Strings

image

From the website:

Jake Shimabukuro: Life on Four Strings is a compelling portrait of an inspiring and inventive musician whose virtuoso skills on the ukulele have transformed all previous notions of the instrument’s potential. Through intimate conversations with Shimabukuro (she-ma-BOO-koo-row), Life on Four Strings reveals the cultural and personal influences that have shaped the man and the musician. On the road from Los Angeles to New York to Japan, the film captures the solitary life on tour: the exhilaration of performance, the wonder of newfound fame, the loneliness of separation from home and family.

Koo Chung still has some great music in him

Koo Chung's Kickstarter Campaign Video
It’s been seven years since Koo Chung has put out any new music. In the years since, he’s been through a lot: some joy, some pain, and everything else in between.

In any case, whatever life has thrown his way is sure to enhance the richness and soul of his next album. With that in mind, wouldn’t it be great if you could be a part of helping him relaunch his music career? After checking out his Kickstarter campaign, one can plainly see that the dude’s still got a lot of music left in him, and it would be a shame if that potential were put to waste.

Help fund his next album now.

Web Series – In Ya Face Presents: Far East Movement

Here’s an inspiring little web series that takes us behind the scenes of the LA-based hip-hop quartet Far East Movement. The series gives viewers a sneak peek into the group’s grueling tour schedule and some of the hurdles they’ve overcome on their way to international acclaim. The fact that it reveals the human side of their music makes this series great viewing for old and new fans alike.

Some quotes from the first episode:

While we were touring we were realizing that our songs were sticking, but people weren’t believing we were a real group… You have to make the connection between yourself and the songs.

Enjoy the web series. And if you’re a real fan of Far East Movement, help support them by buying their music legally:
